Develop your sailing knowledge, navigation, seamanship and boat- handling skills to the next level . . .

This Pacific Northwest Cruise & Learn is focused on providing the participant the opportunity to experience the conditions expected on an extended coastal passage:

  • Weather, current and tide analysis for passage planning
  • Log book template and logging of daily Sail Plan
  • Coastal piloting without GPS
  • Preparing the boat and crew for night sailing
  • Preparing the boat and crew for heavy weather sailing
  • Rigging Storm Sails
  • Anchoring, mooring and docking (or not) techniques for heavy weather
  • Docking (or not) in high winds
  • Provisioning
  • personal preparation for coastal passages

A 3-night stay at Sechelt Inlet's Wilderness Resort is included. Beautiful rustic rooms, deluxe kitchen and a deep water dock provide our base for heavy weather sailing, docking practice, salmon and rock fish fishing. Preparing BBQ salmon feasts on 2 of the evenings will be our crew's goal before settling down into a comfortanble bed and evenings sleep.

7-Days of instruction and adventure aboard our heated Beneteau 36 foot yacht. Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Bareboat Charter Master Certifications are available.

Some of the most rewarding sailing happens at this time of the year. Plenty of wind for our sails, quiet harbours and coves, Strait of Georgia Trincomali Channel and Plumper Sound take us to anchorages in Ganges, Port Browning, Maple Bay and Nanaimo.

Course Overview

Sailors at all levels and visitors from all over the world join us each summer to sail and vacation in Desolation Sound, one of the worlds most iconic sailing destinations.

Prerequisites:

None.

Course includes:

  • 7 or 14 full days of certified sailing instruction on 2011 Beneteau 36 sloop equipped for coastal and offshore cruising- on the second week we visit different anchorages and ports 
  • On-the-water instruction and earn Certification for two (2)) NauticED Courses per week sailed- choice of VSC101 Qualified Keelboat Crew (Beginner)
  • VSC203 Day Skipper Certification (Intermediate)
  • VSC 501 Spinnaker Introduction
  • VSC204 Bareboat Charter Master Certification (Intermediate)
  • VSC205 Coastal Navigation Certification (intermediate)
  • NauticEd Pre-course Study
  • NauticEd LOG Book crediting 3 days Skipper and 4 days Crew experience
  • Mediterranean Anchoring Endorsement
  • All aboard meals, snacks, non-alcoholic beverages
  • Fresh linens/ sleeping bag, towels, facecloths, soaps, shampoos
  • Use of 2 Kayaks and 8HP Dinghy

  • Airfare ($123 from/to South Terminal YVR) and transfers
  • NauticEd RYA Day Skipper ICC Pre-course study package ($325)
