VSC322 Celestial Navigation

Successful completion of the course enables the student to demonstrate the Celestial Navigation theory and best practices required to safely navigate a sailboat on an offshore passage. 

Prerequisites:

None, suitable for Power or Sail recreational boating

Course includes:

  • NauticED pre-course study including sextant loan for 4 weeks
  • Operation and use of the sextant, determining compass deviation, sight reduction methods for sun, moon and stars, and running fixes
  • Practical session is conducted aboard in the VSC338 Offshore Passagemaking Cruise & Learn.
